Now Hiring: Experienced Equipment Operator

We are seeking an equipment operator with experience in vegetable production, or related industry. This is a full-time, seasonal position with work beginning in March. However, preference will be given to those able to consider a long-term commitment, in which case work through the winter is possible.

SKILLS NEEDED:
-Valid Driver’s License
-Experience with operation of farm equipment, including (but not limited to): tillage, seeding, cultivation, irrigation, IPM/spraying, fertility management, and mechanical harvest.
-Mechanical aptitude and understanding of equipment function
-Good maintenance and general repair skills
-Ability to work independently
-Problem solving
-Attention to detail
-Ability to maintain accurate records
-Ability to understand and carry out oral and written equipment application instructions
-Ability to work cooperatively with others.
-Spanish language skills greatly preferred
 
DUTIES:  Work includes operation of tractors, implements, trucks, power and hand tools, and various other mechanical devices.
 
Specific responsibilities include:
1.      Follows specific quality standards as outlined by the equipment manager.
2.      Maintains acceptable production output.
3.      Maintains proper care of ALL equipment.
4.      Operates tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow, and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray, mow, and harvest crops.
5.      Manipulates controls to set, activate, and regulate mechanisms on machinery.
6.      Drives trucks to haul harvested crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers.
7.      Basic maintenance of vehicles including fueling, maintaining fluid levels and tire pressure, and reporting mechanical issues to manager.
8.      May be asked to mix specified materials or chemicals and apply.
9.      Attaches farm implements using bolts and mechanic’s hand tools.
10.    Adjusts, repairs, and lubricates farm machinery and notifies equipment manager immediately when machinery malfunctions.
11.    Loads and unloads materials using correct equipment.
12.    Requests needed equipment supplies from equipment manager in a timely fashion.
13.    Informs managers of crop progress.
14.    Maintains field records after every equipment application.
15.    Keeps all work areas clean and orderly.
