The People

FFV was founded by Jack Hedin and Jennifer McHugh at the Zephyr Valley Land Co-op south of Winona in 1995. In the ensuing years, aided by partners Ed Hedin and Rhys Williams, the farm grew from a 5 acre market garden serving farmer's markets in Winona and Rochester, to an 80 acre organic truck farm producing dozens of crops for co-ops and natural food stores, wholesalers, and an over 500 member Community Supported Agriculture program. FFV's crops are presently distributed throughout southeast Minnesota and, by means of wholesalers in Chicago, throughout a 6 state area and southern Canada.

Jack, Rhys and their familiesThe 2007 season marked a turning point for Featherstone Farm, on many levels. With Rhys' departure, the farm added experienced managers and staff. Mary Benson took charge of the CSA Program as the farm's primary contact person and educator, and Larisa Walk began handling the office work and the coop sales. Moreover, the farm crew, primarily in the persons of the Gasca brothers, brought their six years of experience and wisdom to the effort.

We also have several local seasonal farm hands as well as interns.
