Jack’s Reveal of Week #4 7-9-24
Featherstone Farms Summer CSA Program
Welcome to week four of the Featherstone Farms summer CSA program! 🌞
Weather Update:
The weather is finally starting to dry out, but you may still see some signs of recent rainfall and mud in your boxes this week.
Farm Update:
I've been busy building our next high tunnel, and despite a few cuts and scrapes, I've cleaned up and am ready to share what's in your box this week, adhering to all USDA, KGB, and NBA food safety standards.
This Week's Highlights:
Spring Cabbages: These unusual, conical cabbages are dense and perfect for healthy eating.
Basil: Larger bags are here, ideal for making pesto. More basil is on the way if you didn’t get any this week.
Golden Beets: Despite the heavy rains, the roots are great, though the tops might not be as tender as usual.
Kohlrabi: A few left from spring. Enjoy them raw, like an apple, or grated in slaw.
Summer Broccoli: Smaller heads to maintain quality. More coming next week.
Cucumbers and Zucchini: First of the year, slightly irregular due to rain but still delicious. Plenty more to come.
Fennel: Last week for these. Use the bulbs in salads and the tops for garnishes or seasoning.
French Breakfast Radish: Covered to prevent flea beetles. The roots are in great shape.
White Onions: Last of the season, sweet and perfect for salads.
Experimental Salad Mix: Limited availability this week, a step toward premium salad mixes in the future.
Green and Purple Beans: Plenty for all members. Despite the rain, we've had a great bean harvest.
Looking Ahead:
Next week, expect sweet corn, early bell peppers, and more summer goodies.
Thank you for being part of the Featherstone Farms CSA program. We appreciate your support and look forward to sharing more fresh produce with you. See you next week!
