Pastured Pork from Featherstone Farm
We’re thrilled to announce an exciting new addition to Featherstone Farm: pastured pork! 2025 marks our first year raising happy, healthy hogs, and we can’t wait to share this delicious, sustainably raised pork with our community.
This new endeavor is made possible through the mentorship of Dayna Burtness of Nettle Valley Farm and the dedication of our own farmer Abby and her team. Abby shares:
“I’ve been a longtime customer of Nettle Valley Farm’s pork, so when Dayna approached me about learning her systems and taking over her pork business, I was beyond excited. Nobody in our area raises pork as flavorful as Dayna’s, and with the abundance of culled produce from our veggie and apple operations, we’re well-positioned to take this on.”

How It Works
Our pigs will live, roam, and play on our lush pastures here at Featherstone Farm, just outside Rushford, Minnesota. They’ll enjoy a diverse mix of annual and perennial pasture, have access to fresh water, and feast on an endless supply of culled organic produce from our farm and orchard.
In addition to grazing, they’ll be fed a Certified Organic field pea and barley ration—the same high-quality feed used at Nettle Valley Farm. This corn-, soy-, and fishmeal-free diet results in firmer fat, a clean, delicious flavor, and higher CLAs with a healthier Omega 3:6 ratio.
For this first season, we’re offering whole hogs only. Each one will be processed to your exact specifications—chops or roasts? Brats or Italian sausage? The choice is yours! Processing will take place at Burt’s Meats in Eyota, Minnesota.
We’re diving into this project with excitement and care, learning from the best to bring incredible pastured pork to Featherstone Farm. We’ll keep you updated as we go!

Not yet. While their pea and barley feed is Certified Organic, the pasture they graze on has not been certified, and sourcing certified organic feeder pigs remains uncertain. That said, we follow many organic and "beyond organic" practices and may explore certification in the future.

We never use sub-therapeutic antibiotics, growth promoters like ractopamine, or unnecessary medications. Our approach is focused on prevention and low-stress management.
If a pig does get sick, we treat it like we would ourselves: using natural remedies whenever possible and antibiotics only when truly necessary—always under the guidance of our local veterinarian.
