Jack’s Reveal for Week #3
Featherstone Farms Summer CSA Program
Welcome to week three of the Featherstone Farms summer CSA program! 🌦️
Weather Update:
Early July has brought another wet week, which has impacted our crops. Rest assured, we're doing everything we can to deliver high-quality, diverse produce despite the challenging weather.
New Crops This Week:
Purple Beans: Grown by Abby, these tender, young beans are a novelty. They turn green when steamed but remain delicious.
Purple Kohlrabi: Similar to the green ones, the skin is inedible but the inside is crisp and flavorful, perfect for fresh eating or dips.
Storage Beets: The last of our 2023 field-grown beets. These have developed a rich, hearty flavor in storage and are still great for eating.
Early Green Cabbage: This novel, conical cabbage is an early variety, perfect for fresh eating. Its unique shape is a result of breeding for early production.
Summer Zucchini and Yellow Squash: Fresh and at the perfect size to avoid thick seeds. These are carefully wrapped to prevent bruising.
Fennel: Though we can't grow the large bulbs like in California, our slender fennel is perfect for slicing thin and using in tomato dishes and Italian recipes.
Green Beans: Back again, these young and tender beans are a priority for us this year.
Red Kale, Parsley, and Green Chard: These greens have been affected by the rain and may look a bit torn and yellowed but are still good for eating.
Residual Strawberries: Some still available despite the mud.
Basil: More this week, with plenty more to come.
Looking Ahead:
More surprises and new crops are coming next week. Thank you for being a part of the Featherstone Farms CSA program. See you next week! 🌱
