Our September 21st celebration in honor of Jack’s retirement is one of many wonderful reasons to explore Minnesota’s beautiful Driftless Region. 



Why not make a weekend of it? 


Here’s a few suggestions of things to see, do and where to stay in fabulous Fillmore County. 

*Right here is Rushford you’ll find a pumpkin farm and corn maze. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the outdoors with children and adults alike! Big Springs Farm Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze Justin and Pamela have created a special price for Fall Festival attendees. All you have to say is Featherstone Farm sent you!

*Visit the Root River State Trail and the Harmony-Preston State Trail (collectively called the Blufflands State Trail). This 60-mile (97 km) paved multi-use rail trail system in the driftless area of southeast Minnesota. The trail system consists of two main segments, the Root River segment, and Harmony-Preston Valley segment. The trails are used mainly for bicycling, hiking, and inline skating in the summer, and for cross country skiing in the winter

*Nearby Niagara Cave is one of the largest caves in the Midwest, and is rated among the top 10 best caves by various nationally recognized organizations. Niagara Cave features a 60-foot waterfall in the largest room in the cave, 200 feet below ground level. Outside the cave there is a gift shop, 10 acres of picnic grounds, an 18-hole mini golf course, and a sluice box where people can mine for gems and fossils. The cave will be open for tours Friday, Saturday and Sunday. $20.95 for 13+ and $12.95 for children ages 3-12. Reservations recommended as each tour is limited to 14 people. 

*Visit the FIllmore County Historical Society in Fountain. Open from 10-3 Tuesday through Saturday. The museum complex has grown to consist of a main exhibit arena with two connected pole buildings, the Pleasant Dale-Watson Schoolhouse, one of southern Minnesota’s largest collection of antique agricultural equipment, and the world-famous Pietenpol experimental airplanes. 

The Almeda and Emery Eickoff Genealogy Library is a treasure trove of family research resources, many of which have been indexed by surname. The genealogy and research center is one of the best organized and extensive local history libraries in the State of Minnesota. 

*Explore the Forestville Mystery Cave State Park. Cave tour lengths range from 1-4 hours. Cost is $16 for a one hour tour for an adult, $11 for children aged 5-12. Register in advance.  

*The Spring Valley Methodist Church Museum–visit the church museum and learn the history of the Wilder family and their time in Spring Valley. The Victorian-Gothic designed church, built in 1876, displays two floors of unique artifacts and information related to the Wilders and Spring Valley history. The Washburn-Zittleman house and History Hall across the street have even more relics of the past. Open from 10-4 both Saturday and Sunday. Adults $10 and children ages 5-16 $4

*The Harmony Amish Community primarily make their living through farming, construction and by making and selling crafts. Baskets, furniture, jams, rugs, quilts, baked goods and cashew crunch are among the items available for sale in local businesses and at farmers markets, Amish homes and roadside stands. Most stores open Friday and Saturday

*Disc Golf in Harmony at the Harmony Lions Disc Golf Course. Call 507-886-2469 for more information. Discs available at the Harmony visitors center. 

Make a reservation at the Harmony Golf Course. Explore this 9 hole par 36 course with 2904 yards in all. Golf carts and pull carts are available as well as a clubhouse.

Located in historic Bluff Country, the Commonweal is consistently ranked as one of the top things to do in Lanesboro, MN. Drama Unfolds Where the Root River Bends. 


*In Harmony The JEM Theatre, a movie theater built in 1940, is the only one operating in Fillmore County. See Harold and the Purple Crayon at the historic theater. Come down Friday night and enjoy dinner from local eatery Estelle’s Cafe with your movie (pre-order required).

Stop at Harmony Spirits–a craft distillery producing high quality and smooth Vodka, Rum, Gin, Whiskey, and Bourbon Whiskey using locally sourced grains. Their tasting room has both indoor and outdoor seating. Open Friday and Saturday from 12-9, Sunday from 12-5. 

Preston’s Trout City Brewing is housed in a 125 year old building. Their beer lineup includes blondes, pale ales, IPAs and an oatmeal stout. Open Friday and Saturday from 11-9 and Sunday from 11-5.
